Shopify development that builds for speed, SEO and sales at once.
Your theme is your storefront. Stop renting fixes for it.
Most Shopify themes are five years of patches: an app for every feature, a snippet from every freelancer, and a Lighthouse score that shows it. We build and repair themes in clean, version-controlled Liquid — where speed, SEO and conversion are engineering requirements, not afterthoughts.

How Shopify themes rot.
Theme debt accumulates quietly — one app, one snippet, one live edit at a time — until speed, SEO and every new feature pay for it. These are the five patterns we untangle most.
An app for every feature
Each ‘quick win’ app injects scripts, styles and page weight that never leave.
Twenty apps later, the theme fails Core Web Vitals and pays monthly rent for features ten lines of Liquid could own.
Snippet archaeology
Years of freelancers each patched the theme their own way, nothing documented.
Every change risks breaking something invisible; development slows to a crawl and estimates become guesses.
Design changes that break SEO
A redesign quietly drops heading structure, canonicals or schema the rankings depended on.
Traffic falls weeks after launch and nobody connects it to the deploy.
Features bought, performance sold
Sliders, popups, animations — each added without a speed budget.
Every feature purchase is silently paid for in conversion rate on mobile.
No staging, no version control
Changes edited live in the theme editor, with duplicate-theme ‘backups’.
One bad edit takes the store down in trading hours, and there is no clean way back.
Engineering discipline, applied to your storefront.
The same store can be fast, rankable and easy to change — if it is built like software rather than patched like a brochure. That is the difference we install.
Theme builds & rebuilds
Custom or heavily-customized themes in clean Online Store 2.0 Liquid, built to a speed budget.
Theme repair & rescue
Snippet archaeology resolved: dead code removed, patches consolidated, structure documented.
App rationalization
Apps replaced with native Liquid where ten lines do the job — rent canceled, scripts deleted.
Custom features
Bundles, configurators, B2B pricing, metafield-driven content — built natively, not bolted on.
SEO-safe development
Canonicals, schema and heading structure protected as invariants through every deploy.
Measured delivery
Every release checked against Core Web Vitals field data and conversion, not just ‘it works’.
Built around your market
Sell across Canada with clear delivery coverage, useful product details and a consistent buying journey. If you also serve the US, we agree which market each page should target before expanding the catalogue.
Built for Shopify merchants — not for everyone.
Merchants with patched themes
Five years of app installs and freelancer snippets — you need the debt untangled, not another layer on top.
Brands that ship constantly
Campaigns, landing pages and features every month. You need staging, version control and a speed budget.
Owners who want real ownership
Clean, documented code any developer can maintain — no lock-in, no mystery snippets.
How development ships here.
Audit the theme
Code quality, app load, speed budget and SEO invariants — what is safe, what is debt.
Scope the work
Build, rebuild or repair, sequenced by revenue impact and risk.
Ship on staging
Version-controlled development on a staging theme, reviewed before anything goes live.
Test what matters
Speed, SEO invariants, checkout flow and analytics checked per release.
Leave it owned
Documentation and clean code your team — or your next developer — can actually work with.
How good engineering compounds, layer by layer.
Clean codebase
Versioned, documented code replaces years of anonymous patches.
Staging pipeline
Every change tested on a staging theme before it touches production.
Native features
Rented apps replaced with native features you own outright.
SEO invariants
Canonicals and schema protected through every single release.

How our Shopify development compares to a typical agency.
Plenty of developers can build a theme. The difference is what it costs you to live with the code afterwards.
| What matters | Typical agency | EcomOptix |
|---|---|---|
| Features | Another app, another monthly fee | Native code that you own outright |
| Changes | Live edits on the production theme | Version control and staging, always |
| SEO safety | Redesigns that quietly drop rankings | Canonicals and schema protected per release |
| Handover | Undocumented spaghetti | Clean, documented code any developer can maintain |
| Lock-in | Dependency by obscurity | You own the repo — we earn the next project |

The questions to ask before you hire anyone.
Do we need a rebuild or a repair?
The audit answers that honestly. Repair wins when the theme’s bones are sound and the debt is superficial — dead snippets, app leftovers, patch conflicts. Rebuild wins when the foundation predates Online Store 2.0 or the patch layers are load-bearing. We quote both paths with the trade-offs.
Can you replace our apps with code?
Often, yes. Features like sticky carts, badges, FAQs, size charts and simple bundles are a few lines of Liquid — no monthly fee, no injected scripts. Apps earn their place when they run real infrastructure (reviews, subscriptions, search); the rest are rent.
Will development work hurt our SEO?
Not here — protecting rankings through deploys is half the point. Canonicals, structured data, heading hierarchy and internal linking are treated as invariants with regression checks, so a redesign cannot silently drop them.
Do you work with Shopify Plus?
Yes — checkout extensibility, Functions, B2B and expansion stores included. Plus mostly expands what is buildable natively, which suits how we work.
How do you charge?
Scoped projects for builds and rebuilds; a monthly engineering retainer for stores that ship continuously. Both come with staging, version control and documentation as standard, not extras.
What happens when the project ends?
You own everything: the code, the repo, the documentation. No proprietary frameworks, no lock-in — any competent Shopify developer can pick up where we left off, which is exactly how it should be.
Your theme is quietly taxing every order. We can prove it.
